SLA Summer English and Culture
General English:
General English is designed to give you the skills and confidence to use English in a broad range of situations. Each day you will use a variety of materials including textbooks, newspapers, DVDs and the internet. Students are grouped according to level in order to maximise progress.
• Focus on the four main language skills – speaking, listening, reading and writing
• Practice conversation and pronunciation so that you can communicate clearly and confidently
• Develop your understanding of the main rules of English with regular grammar input
• Read authentic texts to improve your comprehension skills and expand your vocabulary
• Discuss a range of topics and share ideas and stories with fellow students from around the world
Optional Modules:
Business English
With the global dimension of business becoming increasingly important, having good English skills is now essential for a successful corporate career. Our Business English courses are tailored to suit the precise needs of the students in each particular class and taught by highly specialised Business English Trainers who have vast experience in a wide range of corporate settings and a thorough understanding of the demands of business communication.
▪ Focus on effective use of English in a wide range of professional situations e.g. meetings, presentations and interviews ▪ Learn and practise the use of formal language in both spoken and written forms ▪ Discuss a range of topics related to global business ▪ Receive individual feedback in the form of regular tutorials |
Academic English
This optional module is ideal for students who intend to continue their studies in an English speaking country. You will develop the essential skills required to use English in an academic context. There will be particular focus on reading and writing,
▪ Expand your academic vocabulary ▪ Learn and practice language and techniques to write concise but convincing essays ▪ Learn crucial skills such as shorthand note taking and accurate referencing ▪ Develop academic reading skills such as skimming and scanning ▪ Learn and practice how to paraphrase effectively and avoid plagiarising |

Cultural & Social Activities:
London is one of the most vibrant and culturally diverse cities in the world. SLA will organise regular activities so that students can enjoy a range of the sites and attractions that London has to offer. These include group visits in the afternoon and optional cultural activities in the evening. In addition, each Saturday we will organise a day trip outside the city to allow students to experience other parts of the country.
